MacBook Pro 13-inch (2019, four ports): Refurbished, Specs & Repairs

Open 13-inch MacBook Pro 2019

A faster 13-inch Intel MacBook Pro with four ports

The MacBook Pro 13-inch (2019, four Thunderbolt 3 ports) has faster quad-core Intel processors than the two-port model, plus four USB-C ports so you can charge and connect accessories on both sides. It includes the Touch Bar, Touch ID, a True Tone display and the T2 security chip.

It is a capable 13-inch Intel laptop for coding, photography and office work. Like the 2018 model, it uses the butterfly keyboard, so we test every key and check the battery before sale.

Every refurbished MacBook Pro 13-inch (2019, four ports) we sell is checked by our technicians and comes with a 12-month warranty. Browse our refurbished MacBook Pro range, or book a repair if you already own one.

About This Model

The MacBook Pro 13-inch (2019, four Thunderbolt 3 ports) is a compact Intel laptop with a Retina display, Touch Bar and connections on both sides. It deserves consideration when its specification, condition and software compatibility fit your requirements.

Complete Mac Solutions sells used and refurbished Macs in Bristol and throughout the UK. We also repair this model, helping owners investigate faults and compare repair with replacement.

Check the model carefully before comparing prices. Apple also sold a two-port 13-inch Pro in 2019, and the differences extend beyond the number of connections.

Identify the four-port model

Confirm the full model information and configuration rather than relying on the year or appearance. A listing should state processor, memory and storage, as well as identifying the four-port version.

  • Processor: 2.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i5, with a 2.8GHz quad-core Core i7 option.
  • Memory: 8GB or 16GB onboard memory.
  • Storage: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB or 2TB SSD configurations.
  • Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655.
  • Display: 13.3-inch Retina, 2560 × 1600 resolution, P3 colour and True Tone.
  • Connections: four Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports and a headphone socket.
  • Controls: Touch Bar, Touch ID and Force Touch trackpad.
  • Camera: 720p FaceTime HD.

What are the practical advantages?

The compact screen size can suit buyers who carry their laptop regularly and use an external monitor at a desk. Try the working arrangement you expect to use rather than choosing only from photographs.

Four built-in USB-C connections can simplify a setup with charging, storage and other equipment. You may still need suitable adapters or a dock for devices using different connections.

If you need an Intel Mac for a particular application or established workflow, check that compatibility before buying. The operating system, application version, licence and peripherals matter alongside the processor type.

For general use without a specific Intel requirement, compare suitable Apple silicon alternatives too. The complete purchase should include condition, warranty and expected software needs.

Core i5 or Core i7?

A higher processor option is not automatically the best value. Start with the applications you use, how demanding your projects are and what you expect the laptop to do.

For documents, email and compatible everyday applications, condition and memory may be more relevant than paying extra for the Core i7 name. For creative or technical work, explain your workload before deciding.

Do not assume every 13-inch Pro from 2019 offers the same experience. Compare the exact specification, particularly when a seller has omitted whether the machine has two or four ports.

Memory and storage choices

An 8GB configuration may suit lighter use. If you keep several applications open or work with larger files, discuss whether a 16GB machine would be more appropriate.

Check your current storage use before choosing an SSD capacity. A 256GB machine can become restrictive as applications, photographs and working files accumulate.

A 512GB configuration provides more room, while larger capacities may suit substantial local libraries. External drives can help with files but do not increase working memory.

Choose memory and internal storage at purchase. Do not plan on ordinary later upgrades, and include a separate backup arrangement for important work.

Butterfly keyboard and Touch Bar checks

This model uses a butterfly keyboard rather than the scissor-switch Magic Keyboard fitted to the 2020 13-inch Pro models. Keyboard condition is therefore an important part of the buying inspection.

Test every key, looking for repeated letters, missed presses and sticky or inconsistent behaviour. Type a paragraph and check the space bar and modifier keys repeatedly.

Ask whether faults occur intermittently and whether the keyboard has previously been repaired. A brief demonstration may not reproduce a problem that appears during extended use.

Check the Touch Bar, Touch ID and trackpad too. If you already own a machine with problems, contact us for an assessment rather than assuming the entire laptop needs replacing.

Display, battery and everyday condition

Inspect the Retina display on light and dark backgrounds. Check for cracks, marks, uneven illumination and any change in behaviour as the lid moves.

Ask about battery health and actual running time. Cycle count provides context but should not be the only information used to assess the battery.

Unexpected shutdowns, unusually short running time and a battery service message deserve investigation. A visibly swollen battery requires you to stop using and charging the laptop and seek advice.

Include any likely maintenance and accessory costs when comparing prices. A cheaper machine needing immediate attention may be less attractive than a better-condition example with warranty cover.

For Bristol students

Check your course’s applications and operating system requirements before choosing an older Mac. Essays, research and presentations have different needs from demanding design, music or technical projects.

We can help compare refurbished models and discuss current student offers. Explain how you will use the machine, including any specialist software or equipment your course requires.

Allow for adapters, external storage and other essentials. A laptop that fits the complete course setup is more useful than one chosen solely because it carries the Pro name.

For business customers

Businesses should confirm software, remote access, monitor and security requirements before purchasing. If a particular Intel application is essential, verify its supported operating systems with the supplier.

Apple currently lists macOS Sequoia as this model’s newest compatible system. Check the requirements of the software versions you intend to use and avoid assuming compatibility with future releases.

We can help source suitable Macs for individuals and teams. Tell us whether matching specifications are important and how the machines will be used.

Used buying checks

Confirm the four-port model and exact configuration. Ask about previous repairs, battery condition, cosmetic condition and included accessories.

Test every USB-C connection, the keyboard, Touch Bar, trackpad, camera, microphone and speakers. Inspect the casing and hinge area and ask about intermittent faults.

Make sure the machine is ready for a new owner, without another owner’s Activation Lock or unwanted organisation management. Establish whether any paid software licence can legitimately transfer.

Many of our Macs come fully boxed with all accessories and in fantastic condition. We confirm packaging, accessories and condition for each individual machine.

MacBook Pro repairs in Bristol

We can assess keyboard faults, charging problems, battery concerns, damaged displays, trackpad issues and Macs that will not start.

Diagnosis comes before recommending parts. A charging problem may involve the charger, cable, ports or internal hardware. Display symptoms also need investigation rather than an automatic assumption about the failed component.

Unusual fan noise, heat or shutdowns should be described in context. Tell us what the Mac is doing when the problem occurs. These symptoms do not establish that every laptop in this range has the same defect.

If the machine contains important files, mention them before authorising work. Hardware repair and data recovery are separate outcomes.
